About sex without “doing it” (outercourse)
Phone sex

Dear Alice,

I love to have phone sex, but I always feel guilty after the conversation. Am I some sort of a deviant because I like listening to women playing with themselves? Also, do you know of any group of Columbia women who are into not-for-profit phone sex? Is there any such exchange available?

Dear Looking for phone sex!,

Phone sex is a form of sexual fantasy. There is nothing wrong with fantasy; in fact, in many forms, it is quite normal. Feeling guilty about your phone sex experiences is also normal, but worry not! There is a big difference between imagining doing something and actually carrying it out. It is safe and fun to fantasize about protection-free, worry-free sex with strangers, and to talk with them while imagining. In the real world, where sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are commonplace, and where conception and bad feelings occur far more often than anyone would like to believe, you would need to take real life precautions. So, phone sex is one practice of safer sex, and greatly reduces (if not nullifies) risk of HIV transmission.

As far as a phone sex line on-campus is concerned, none are known of at Columbia. However, various chat rooms are available online that may meet your interests.
