Dear Alice,

I had a similar problem with orgasms — terrific by my lonesome and impossible with anyone else there. It's been a multi-step process to being okay — one, with my body and that the way I get there doesn't have to be the same as the way other people get there; and two, being comfortable with my partner enough to "masturbate," if you will, while we were having sex and to communicate to him whether I needed more or less or exactly that several times over. Even then I could only orgasm if my legs were together until very recently. It seems like you can't talk very openly about this with your guy, and I get that as well, but try talking to him during sex about what you want — it's suprisingly easier!
